For The Love of Fabric

Our Love for Fabric is Everlasting

The craft of hand-spun and hand-woven fabric is a human process in which all senses work together to create clothing with a unique character and identity. The craft is steeped in India's history and heritage, passed down through generations with techniques varying across different regions.

KHADI is the term that refers to Indian hand-woven cloth. Gandhi was instrumental in ensuring its preservation in the 1920’s by organising a movement aimed at boycotting expensive foreign cloth introduced by the British Raj.

GANDHI began promoting the spinning of khadi for rural self-employment and self-reliance (instead of using cloth manufactured industrially in Britain), making khadi an integral part, and an icon, of the Indian Independence movement.

The quality of a thread that is formed between two fingertips creates designs that are recognisable and distinguishable from the uniform look of machine-made fabrics by slight, beautiful irregularities in the warp and weft.

All our clothing is made from hand-spun and hand-woven fabric. The unbleached, organic cotton khadi on our Buna dresses is soft and breathable, while the silk and cotton mix of our Charbagh designs are wonderfully light and delicate. We’re proud to support rural communities and help keep this ancient technique alive.
